The JVP has condemned the “brutal attack”
that killed Minister Jeyaraj Fernandopulle, Marathon Champion
K.A. Karunaratna, talented coach Luxman de Silva and more
than ten others and extends its sympathies to all relatives
and loved ones of the dead and wish speedy recovery to
those who were injured in the attack.
“It is after a long time that the separatist tiger
terrorists were able to carry out an attack in an area
near Colombo. It indicates the imminent, massive defeat
the terrorists are confronted today. The terrorists have
been able to carry out these attacks as a result of the
government’s chaotic conduct of overestimating the
security situation at times and underestimating it at
certain other times. Hence we call upon the government
not to muddle up security arrangements until tiger terrorism
is completely eradicated,” states the JVP statement
issued by its Political Bureau.
It states, “The brutal attacks confirm that there
is no other alternative but completely defeat separatist
tiger terrorism and establish democracy in the country.
We call upon the government not to waste time going behind
devolution proposals but to strengthen and encourage heroic
Security Forces, defeat tiger terrorism militarily and
establish democracy.
The JVP in its statement asks those countries, the UNP,
NGOs that depend on dollars and so-called human rights
organizations that make a big uproar stating that human
rights are violated due to search operations and inspections
carried out in relation to national security what they
have to say regarding this attack. It is evident that
their aim is to create more situations for such brutal
attacks and make the country unstable.
