Pots and pans smashed at Nugegoda to protest the curse of the 'Satake'

3.4.2008

United National Party (UNP) launched a protest campaign against the 'Satake Sapata' at 120 electorates since today (03). The protestors smashed pots and pans as a symbolic protest to the rising cost of living.

The UNP says that the protest against corruption, terror and malpractices of the Rajapakse family will be continued until the government is sent home.

The major campaign of the Colombo district was held near Nugegoda junction with the patronage of the MP Ravi Karunanayaka.

"All know how they eat and only the hearth knows how we eat" and "Cost of living rising; Salaries insufficient; Bunches go abroad and sell the entire country" were some of the slogans chanted by the demonstrators who marched from Nugegoda Super Market to the junction taking placards in their hands.

They held a picketing campaign for around an hour and then smashed pots and pans to protest the government.

MP Ravi Karunanayaka said addressing the meeting, "The JVP and the JHU urge people to tighten their belts whilst they themselves loosen theirs. Weerawansas sabotaged the chance to defeat this regime at the budget vote. Now they are as silent as moles whilst people are so helpless. Corruption and terror has risen to its maximum and the Rajapakse family is nourished with the means of them. We must put an end to the journey of this regime."
