ImageThe
movie 'Prabhakaran' will be screened in Sri Lanka from
the 25th of this month (April), Film Producer Saman Thanthirige
told www.news.lk.
The
producer has been able to make 16 copies of the film in
Italy.
The
English subtitled version of the movie will also be screened
internationally from the 27th of this month.
The
Director of the movie Thushara Peiris was assaulted by
a group of pro- LTTE thugs when he was in Chennai to collect
the Tamil subtitled version of the movie from the Gemini
Colour Laboratories. The assailants took off with his
film. Thereafter the mob leader obtained a temporary restraining
order from the courts to stop the release for a week arguing
it would affect the whole Tamil race.
"The
decision to screen the film in India is pending with the
ongoing legal process," Peiris said. Although the
Central Government in India has given approval for the
screening of the film in their country, The Censors Board
in Tamil Nadu has not given consent, he explained.
Mr.
Thanthirige said that the film 'Prabhakaran' was the first
Sri Lankan movie waiting to be screened in India. He also
said that parties requesting a ban on the movie are LTTE
aides.
Meanwhile
the senior Tamil politician and the leader of the Tamil
United Liberation Front, V. Anandasangaree is of the view
that by showing a film exposing the atrocious activities
of the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) cannot
become a problem to Tamils in general and in no way brings
discredit to the entire Tamil race.
