JVP
Parliamentarian Jayanthe Wijesekera and two other suspects
who were remanded on a complaint made by Parliamentarians
Piyasiri Wijenayake and Achala Jagoda on the 11th that they
were involved in removing two vehicles parked in Parliamentary
complex were set free on bail today.
When
Mr. Wijesekera was brought before court on the 17th he
was refused bail and was remanded till today. When Mr.
Wijesekeara was brought before court today Mr. Sunil Watagala
appearing for Mr. Wijesekera said vehicles of the JVP
were the property of the party and they are used commonly
by the Parliamentarians. As such, Mr. Wijesekera and the
two drivers have not committed any crime by removing the
vehicles as asserted by the complainants. He pointed out
what the Parliamentarian and the two drivers had done
was to safeguard the property of their party.
The
court accepted the defense lawyer’s argument and
released Mr. Wijesekara and the two drivers on bail. The
hearing will take place on the 27th.
