Racing car driver killed in Nuwara Eliya Motor Cross

Apr 20, Nuwara Eliya: Veteran motorist Dilshan Bandaranaike was killed today at the Nuwara Eliya Lake Cross 2008, Sri Lanka's 4 x 4 motor sporting event, held at main racing circuit in the hill country. The victim was competing in the mini 7, up to 1000 cc category when he met with the accident.

No 26, Austin Mini that was driven by Dilshan collided with Ajith Hemachandra’s car and then rammed on to a tree close to the Nanu Oya junction. Dilshan died whilst being taken to the Nuwara Eliya Hospital while Ajith suffered serious injuries. Two others were also suffered minor injuries and admitted to the Nuwara Eliya hospital.

In the 2007 competition motorcyclist, Ranjith Chandrapala was killed while taking part in a sporting event.
