31.3.2008

Two new Hospital wards, erected at Anuradhapura Victoria hospital, following an initiative taken by "Tharunyata Hetak" project under the leadership of its president, Mr. Namal Rajapaksa were formally handed over to Commander of the Army Lieutenant General Sarath Fonseka Monday (31) morning at a simple ceremony.

Both hospital wards with most modern equipment, built at a cost of about Rs. 6.3 million for the use of injured and sick War Heroes were completed within record four months after foundation stones were laid at the end of the year 2007. The project was sponsored through the "Tharunyata Hetak" funds.

These new wards with most modern beds and other electric accessories are equipped to accommodate sixty more patients of the Army and the services who are serving Wanni and Anuradhapura areas.

The construction was purely designed and planned by 2nd Engineer Services Regiment (2ESR) of the Sri Lanka Army, thereby sparing a colossal sum of money that would go for labour unless or otherwise.

Mr. Namal Rajapaksa, accompanied by Commander of the Army Lieutenant General Sarath Fonseka and president Seva Vanitha Army Branch (SVAB) Mrs. Anoma Fonseka, cut a red ribbon and unveiled the plaque to mark the formal opening of the buildings. They were received by inmates in the hospital at the entrance.

After observance of religious rites, Mr. Namal Rajapaksa symbolically admitted the first patient to the new wards. Following the inauguration, Commander, Mr. Rajapaksa, Mrs. Anoma Fonseka and senior officers visited patients in the hospital complex and offered gift parcels to all those receiving treatment. The visiting group also shared a couple of views with War Heroes now under treatment in the hospital. They also wished them speedy recovery.

The ceremony was attended by a large crowd including Commander Security Forces Wanni Major General Jagath Jayasuriya, Director Medical Services Brigadier Sanjeewa Munasinghe, Commanding Officer of the Victory Army Hospital Major Wasantha Herath and several others.
