Demanding immidiate measures to curb activities of LTTE and pro- LTTE alignes in European nations, Sri Lankans living in Sweden gathered in front of the Stockholm Cultural House (Sergels Torg) for a protest demonstrations on Saturday 29th of March.

The multi-ethnic participants of the protest demonstration requested the authorities to take into account the atrocities commited by LTTE terrorists in Sri Lanka inculding human rights violations, political assassinations, abductions, and the forceble conscription of civilians especially underaged and elders to their terrorist movement. They urged the Swedish and European Union authorities to ban forthwith LTTE activities in Sweden and European Nations.

The protest was organised by Sri Lankans living in Sweden affiliated with the members and friends of CASTIS (Campaign Against Separatist Terrorism In Sri Lanka), in Sweden.

"The protesters displayed photographs of the incidents of atrocities done by the LTTE and collected signatures for a petition to be handed over to the office of the Ministry for Foreign Affairs of Sweden," foreign media reported on Monday (31). They also demanded the ban on the Tamil Rehabilitation Organization (TRO) in Sweden which is funding the LTTE.

The Government of Sri Lanka proscribed TRO as a terrorists' aiding group since November last year. The TRO under guise of a charity organization collected and directed funds to the LTTE for procurement operations. Those operations included the purchase of ammunitions, equipment, communication devices and other technology for the LTTE.

The United States also froze TRO assets accusing the organization which has raised funds on behalf of the LTTE through a network of individual representatives. "According to sources within the organization, the TRO is the preferred conduit of funds from the United States to the LTTE in Sri Lanka." U.S. Department of the Treasury announced.
