Military
reports on yesterday's (April 15) counter terrorist offensives
in the Jaffna and Wanni theatres of operations reveal
12 LTTE terrorists were killed and at least 8 others were
wounded in the day's battles.
In
the Jaffna theatre, snipers deployed on the Muhamalai
Defence Line claimed 2 LTTE cadres killed.
In
the Wanni theatre, troops continued their offensive in
to the LTTE dominated regions from multiple fronts, causing
heavy damages to the enemy.
On
the Vavuniya front, troops engaged a terrorist bunker
in the Navatkulama area with small arms and rocket propeller
grenades (RPGs) last forenoon and claimed 2 terrorists
were killed. Also, snipers deployed in Sulainamaruthamadhu
area claimed to have shot down a terrorist on the same
day afternoon. Own casualties on the Vavuniya front recorded
as 2 soldiers, both due to explosions of improvised explosive
devices (IED) and anti personnel mines (AP).
In
addition, troops engaged in clearing operations removed
90 AP mines from Sulainamaruthamadhu area.
On
the Welioya front, troops had several confrontations in
the North of Kiriibbanwewa and the North of Janakapura
areas during the day and confirmed one LTTE cadre was
killed and 8 others were wounded. Also, troops claimed
that at least 26 LTTE cadres were either killed or wounded
during these confrontations. Two soldiers were killed
and 9 others suffered injuries.
Meanwhile,
troops found 2 T-56 riffles, one GPS and 90 AP mines during
the subsequent searches.
On
the Mannar front, 6 terrorists were killed while one soldier
suffered injuries in yesterday's clashes.
Limited
offensives are continuing.
