A soldier was killed and another suffered injuries when an LTTE terrorist lobbed a hand grenade at an army picket at Malesandi last afternoon (April 12). According to the sources, the incident occurred around 1.15 pm while the soldiers were providing security for the people going to Nelliadi town.

The terrorist said to have reached the picket point taking cover from the civilians and lobbed the hand grenade, said the sources. Troops refrained from retaliation considering the safety of the large number of people who were going to the town to buy their necessities for the coming Sinhala and Tamil New Year.
