Mr.
Wimal Weerawansa has not been removed from any of the positions
he has held says Leader of the JVP Somawansa Amarasinghe.
He has not been removed from the post of Information Secretary
or from being the leader of the group of Parliamentarians
of the JVP said the JVP leader addressing a press conference
held in Colombo today. He added that no other person has
been appointed for the organizations Mr. Weerawansa has
convened.
Mr. Amarasinghe made these references in response to the
statement made by Mr. Weerawansa in the parliament and views
expressed by 10 Parliamentarians of the JVP supporting Mr.
Weerawansa’s statement at a media meeting held by
these 10 Parliamentarians later. Answering a question posed
by a journalist regarding what action would be taken by
the party regarding the 10 Parliamentarians Mr. Amarasinghe
said it would be decided at a Central Committee meeting
of the party and the matter should be discussed with the
relevant Parliamentarians.
Mr. Amarasinghe said what exists in the party is democratic
centralism and it is the highest form of organizational
policy that has been created and added that party constitution
clearly states that the minority has to accept the decision
of the majority and act accordingly.
He said the allegations against Mr. Weerawansa were presented
to the Central Committee by him and Mr. Weerawansa is yet
to present his explanations to those allegations which include
ignoring the viewpoint of the majority.
Mr. Amarasinghe said all have contributed to develop the
party. He showed a copy of a letter sent to the commissioner
of elections from abroad to safeguard the name of the party.
He also showed the list of instructions sent by him for
the first party convention held after 1987 saying he had
included how the poster for the convention should be drawn.
