This morning (26) Sri Lanka Air Force fighter jets hit a well identified LTTE gathering point in the east of Kilinochchi – in the Vanni area, Media Centre for National Security (MCNS) reports. The report further states that the gathering was of LTTE leaders.
Yesterday (25), Army troops successfully retaliated a LTTE attempt to attack the security position in Eastern Madu area in Mannar, where LTTE lost 21 cardres and 28 were injured. Military reports state that the strong retaliation of the Government troops forced the Tigers to flee leaving their dead cardres behind. Intercepted LTTE radio transmissions revealed that LTTE have lost more than 21 of their cardres and 28 were injured.
Tigers have started shelling at the Security Force position during the early hours of yesterday morning from the areas East of Madu.
“During retaliatory strikes two soldiers were dead with twenty three injured who were evacuated to Anuradhapura hospital by evening today. Some soldiers with minor injuries joined the battalion after field dressing,” MCNS further stated.
Recently, LTTE have started attacking the Vanni Forward Defence Lines continuously and according to the ground military sources Tigers are holding innocent civilians around their gun positions forming a human shield forcing the Government troops to refrain from retaliating.
