Five civilians were killed and over 30 were believed injured when LTTE terrorists blew off a Colombo bound public transportation bus at Cheddikulama in Vavuniya, on Monday the 23rd of April, around 11.45p.m.
According to the Cheddikulama Police sources, the bus was along the Mannar - Medawachchiya (A-14) main route and had just passed the 'Manik Farm' junction, when the explosion triggered off.
Meanwhile, the Cheddikulama Police officials confirmed that the LTTE terrorists had triggered off a claymore mine, laden in close distance to the Mannar- Medawachchiya main Road.
The Police sources added that the injured civilians were immediately transferred to the General Hospital at Cheddikulama. Three children and eight woman were among the injured, according to the Cheddikulama Hospital sources.
Cheddikulama is located 17 miles north west of Medawachchiya towards Mannar, in the Vavuniya district.
The LTTE is a ruthless terror group who fights for a mono-ethnic separate homeland for the Tamil living in Sri Lanka since 1983. It has been the outfit's strategy since its inception to flush out Singhalese and Muslim people from North and East by bloody ethnic cleansing raids. Thousands of civilians, mostly women and children were perished in the most ruthless massacres during its 20 years of terror campaign. |
