AusLMAT visited the Base Hospital at Hambantota on their recent visit to Sri Lanka. Surgical instruments donated by Mr. Peter Gregory (surgeon) and the Sandringham Hospital in Melbourne were given to Dr. Ashmore Ranasinghe - general surgeon at Hambantota. He is seen here receiving this gift. Ashmore Ranasinghe is a Cambridge qualified surgeon who does great work. He would like to have a laparoscope.

Dr. Jennifer Johns is also seen here conducting an echo session with Dr. Somasiri Uluwatte Visiting Physician at Hambantota. Jennifer also made a donation that went towards air-conditioning the library at the base hospital. She addressed the medical society on "Management of Myocardial Infarction". This was Jennifer's fourth visit to Sri Lanka since the Boxing Day Tsunami of 2004. She will be a key-note speaker at the Sri Lanka College of Physicians annual meeting next year.
